The Use of Crude Coconut Oil (CCO) as an Alternative Oil Base Mud (OBM) for Drilling Operations by "VICOIL" Standard Drilling Simulation Rig

Shale is one of the rocks that often causes drilling problems because shale tends to swell or when in contact with mud filtrate, mainly water-based Water-base Mud (WBM). This study aims determine how performance Oil-base (OBM) based on Crude Coconut Oil (CCO) overcoming swelling problem. The methodology used consists simulation and cutting analysis X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) laboratory. series activities began preparation rock layers, followed by testing penetration rate using as a comparison. After was carried out XRD laboratory UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta Rigaku tool, then replaced type fluid basic materials alternative test. Rate Penetration (ROP) test results from WBM Rheology 1 at interval depth 1.64 ft-3.28 ft 442.8 ft/h, 2 4.92-6.5 118.5 ft/hr first day. Swelling occurred pipe sticking 3.28 6.5 ft. Based Bulk Mineral analysis, clay mineral content 23.84%. Clay Oriented, smectite dominates 29.09%. MBT, belongs class B (illite mixed-layer montmorillonite illite), where this can expand. Geonor As test, 5.18% develop exposed water. (CCO), obtained ROP Interval ft-4.92 492 ft/h ft-10.5 480 ft/h. Compressive Strength A first, third, fifth days were 31,699 psi, 42,265 52,831 psi. second, third 31,496 41,517 52,971 magnitude value, known effective during simulation, there are no problems, resulting value greater than day Mud.
